How a Sydney Harbour charter actually works.

Every price on this page is per hour for the whole vessel, not per head. Read this once and every card below makes sense.

You charter the whole boat, by the hour. The rate you see on each vessel card buys that vessel, its skipper and its crew for one hour. Your group has the boat to itself. There is no shared cruise, no seat allocation and no strangers on board.

Minimum charter length varies by vessel and by date. Most vessels have a 4-hour minimum, and some need longer on key public holidays. Others are booked to the hours you want. That is why every from-price on this page is a starting point and the exact figure is confirmed on your proposal.

Food and drink is yours to choose. Most vessels take a catering package, a drinks package, or your own BYO. Several carry a BBQ, and Passion runs BBQ packages from $20pp. Tell us what your day looks like and we build the food around it.

We can get you to the wharf too. Urban Legends owns its coaches, so the same booking can include a private coach from your office, hotel or venue to the boarding point and home again afterwards. That is the part most charter operators cannot do. See Sydney bus charters.

  • Coach transfer to and from the wharf, on a luxury coach.

Every from-price on this page is per hour for the whole vessel unless the card says otherwise, and the Team Building Regatta is the one exception, priced per person. Minimum charter length varies by vessel and by date. Your exact figure, including your hours and any catering, is confirmed on your proposal. Charters are subject to availability.

A boat party and a yacht charter are the same booking with a different playlist. You take the whole vessel privately, by the hour, and then decide whether the day is a long lunch at anchor or a dance floor with the sound system up.

A Sydney boat party on Passion starts from $775 per hour for the whole vessel, including the dance floor, the swim and jumping platform, the sun deck with nets, with BBQ packages from $20pp.

What makes a party boat a party boat

The vessels our party groups keep choosing all share the same four things: a real dance floor, a Bluetooth or Fusion sound system you control from your own phone, a swim or jumping platform so the afternoon can end in the water, and space to spread out across a sundeck and a saloon rather than one crowded deck.

Passion is the open-plan party yacht, Mayfair is the relaxed bucks cruise with your own craft beer where BYO is permitted, the Sunset Soiree catamaran and Rum Runner take the bigger daytime groups at 43 and 47 guests, and Barefoot Blue and Barefoot Spirit take the party to 70 and 200 guests, with a waterslide off the back of both and a DJ stage on Spirit. Yacht for a small group

Mayfair and Balu are the two smallest vessels and the ones we put intimate gatherings, smaller teams and relaxed bucks cruises on. Mayfair starts from $550 per hour for up to 25 guests, and Balu from $1,790 for a 2-hour charter for up to 12. For up to 30 under sail, Barefoot starts from $550 per hour on weekdays. MV Maddison, a 62ft luxury motor cruiser with a licensed bar, takes up to 30 from $750 per hour.

Boat for 40 people

The Sunset Soiree catamaran, published for 43 guests plus 2 crew, with two toilets, a kitchen, a large BBQ and forward nets, from $650 per hour for a group of 31 to 43 guests between May and October. Rum Runner takes 47 and starts from $650 per hour for 31 to 47 guests Monday to Thursday, October to April. Obsession, a fully BYO 50ft sailing catamaran with big front trampolines, takes up to 38 from $600 per hour. Freedom, a fully BYO 50ft catamaran, takes up to 50 from $550 per hour for 21 to 50 guests between April and September, and MV Mascot, an air-conditioned BYO catamaran, takes up to 65 from $600 per hour for 31 to 65 guests over the same months. For up to 70, Barefoot Blue starts from $750 per hour on weekdays, and Regal II, a heritage timber ferry with a licensed bar, takes up to 70 from $600 per hour between April and September.

Boat party for 100 or more

Five vessels are built for that number. Clearview, our largest vessel, is a glass-walled event boat for up to 400 guests on day (lunch) charters, and Magistic Two, a luxury catamaran, takes up to 340 on night (dinner) charters, both from $1,500 per hour for a minimum of 120 guests from January to October. Royale is a 1972 heritage timber ferry for 160 guests on charter (220 on a water transfer), from $700 per hour between April and September. Barefoot Spirit takes up to 200 guests across three covered decks, from $1,100 per hour for up to 150 and $1,300 per hour for up to 200 on weekdays. Ghost 2, published for 110 guests, adds a jacuzzi and a full bar, from $3,600 per hour for 81 to 100 guests between April and October, and more for 101 to 110 guests or from November to March.

On the water

Swimming, the Lilypad and the anchor stop.

Most charters stop somewhere quiet. Sydney Harbour is full of sheltered bays, and the middle of a charter is usually spent at anchor rather than under way. That is when the swim platform, the jumping platform and the swim ladders earn their place on the feature list.

The Lilypad is free on the vessels that carry it. It is a large floating mat off the back of the boat, and it is the single most used add-on on this fleet. SUPs and kayaks are for hire on the vessels that stock them, and on Passion the Lilypad is a $120 add-on. Barefoot includes stand up paddleboards, Rum Runner carries paddleboards and kayaks, and Barefoot Blue and Barefoot Spirit both have a waterslide off the back.

Then the BBQ goes on. The catamarans and Passion all carry one, Passion runs BBQ packages from $20pp, and on Rum Runner and the three Barefoot boats the crew or the captain cook it for you while you are still in the water.

Getting to the wharf

Coach transfers as well.

Boarding points are on Sydney Harbour and each vessel has its own home berth, confirmed with your proposal. Which means the first question after "which boat" is almost always "how does everyone get there".

Urban Legends has been an owner-operated Sydney charter business since 2016 and a luxury fleet runs from 14 to 41 seats. The same booking can put a private coach outside your office, your hotel or your venue, run your group to the wharf, and be waiting when the charter comes back in. Corporate groups arriving from one office, Christmas parties spread across Sydney, and hens weekends where the boat is only half the day all use it.

Charter rates on this fleet start at $500 per hour for the whole vessel on Freedom, a fully BYO catamaran, for up to 20 guests from April to September, then $550 on Mayfair ($600 from November to February), the Tiger 3 catamaran, Barefoot and MV Mascot, rising through $600 on Rum Runner and Obsession, $650 on the Tiger 3 catamaran for 31 to 43 guests, $750 on Barefoot Blue and MV Maddison, $775 on Passion and $900 on Barefoot Spirit for up to 70 guests ($1,300 for up to 200), to $3,000 per hour on Ghost 2 from April to October and $3,500 from November to March, for up to 60 guests. For groups of 120 or more, Magistic Two (night) and Clearview (day) start from $1,500 per hour for the whole vessel, plus menus and drinks per person. The rate buys the whole vessel, its skipper and its crew, for one hour. It is not a per-head price and there is no shared cruise. Minimum charter length varies by vessel and by date. Most vessels have a 4-hour minimum, and some need longer on key public holidays. Others are booked to the hours you want. We confirm the minimum for your vessel and your date on the proposal rather than publishing a single number that would be wrong for most of the fleet.
Food starts at $15 per person for an antipasto grazing box, $20 per person for a BBQ package cooked on board, and $35 per person for canapés. The deluxe antipasto box is $25 per person, and the larger BBQ package, which adds lamb and peppered beef rissoles, is $30 per person. Grazing and canapé boxes carry a minimum of 8 people, and BBQ packages run on the vessels that carry a BBQ: Passion and the catamaran. Those are starting-from prices with more on the menu than we publish, so the full list goes out with your proposal. Mayfair and Balu also take BYO if you would rather bring your own.

A birthday yacht charter usually means Passion or Mayfair for the dance floor and the swim platform, or the Sunset Soiree catamaran for a bigger daytime group. Pre-access and loading lets you bring the cake, the balloons and the grazing table aboard and set the boat up before your guests arrive. The same applies to an anniversary yacht charter, an engagement or any milestone celebration: the vessel changes, the booking does not.

For a party boat, Barefoot Spirit takes up to 200 guests across three covered decks, with a DJ stage, a bow dancefloor and a waterslide. It is priced by guest band: from $900 per hour on weekdays for up to 70 guests, $1,100 for up to 150 and $1,300 for up to 200, plus the owner's wharf, BYO and sound system fees. Sydney Harbour charters run in most conditions, and the fleet is built for it: a large comfortable saloon on Mayfair and a big undercover entertaining area on the catamaran. A shower does not end the day. If conditions make a charter genuinely unsafe, that call sits with the skipper, and we work through the options with you and the vessel. The exact weather and cancellation terms for your vessel are set out with your proposal.
Four to eight weeks ahead for a standard charter. Two to three months for December, New Year's Eve, and any Saturday between October and March, because those dates go first across the whole fleet. Ghost 2 and the superyacht are the two that book furthest out, because there is only one of each. If your date is close, ask anyway: charters are subject to availability and vessels do come free.
Yes. Every charter on this fleet is run by a professional skipper, and the crew that vessel operates with is part of the hourly rate. The Sunset Soiree catamaran carries a skipper plus a deckhand, and the Team Building Regatta puts an experienced skipper on every yacht in the fleet to guide your team through the race. The exact crew for your vessel is confirmed on your proposal.
They are the same booking. Both mean you take the whole vessel privately, by the hour, with the skipper and crew on board. "Boat party" and "party boat" describe what the day turns into: the dance floor, the sound system up, the jumping platform and an afternoon in the water. "Yacht charter" is more often used for the long lunch, the private dining and the sunset sail. Passion is the vessel most people mean by a Sydney boat party, from $775 per hour for the whole boat.
